Secretary for Political Affairs, US Embassy, Mr. Lawrence K. Robinson said those who committed terrorism in Japan, Northern Ireland, the United States and Nepal were not Muslims, in fact, terrorists did not belong to any religion and only used religions for their vested interests, he said.
Those who claimed to be Muslims and carried out suicide bombings and killed innocent people were not Muslims at all. Not every Muslim would subscribe to their views, he added.
Mr. Robinson said donors and rich countries should contribute to eliminate poverty and eradicating other social evils from poor countries where people resorted to terrorism mainly due to deprivations.
Achieving targets of enlightened moderation needs more sacrifices and support from the masses. Moderation was the only solution to the terrorism issue, he added.
I welcome the opportunity to participate as the representation of my government in the launching of CAT Foundation. I appreciate the initiative of Zafar Shahid and his team. I stress that we must no ever equate terrorism with Islam. As different terrorists acts done in past internationally, they were not Muslims.
These are the people who are trying to destroy democracy. Many of the most high profile groups certainly in this part of the world call themselves Muslims. True enemies of Islam are those who commit terrible crimes and claimed to be doing it in the name of the world's one great religion that is Islam. A religion that's very name means peace. Those who commit those crimes want to divide us from each other. President Musharraf enlightened moderation initiative have set a challenge for all of us for Muslim, Christian, Hindus, Buddhist, Jews for the developing world and the developed world covering terrorism requires a coordinated multifascinated approach.
