Japanese Ambassador, Nobuaki Tanaka's Speech
Japanese Ambassador Nobuaki Tanaka appreciated the frontline role played by Pakistan in the war on terror, and establishment of CAT Foundation as a private sector organization.
Pakistan, he said, had faced great losses in eliminating terrorists. Without Pakistan's support, war on terror might not have been as successful as it was today.
It would be a historic challenge for Pakistan, if it achieved the targets of enlightened moderation as set forth by President General Pervez Musharraf.
He said Japan had always played its due role in war against terror. It had so far provided $800 million for rehabilitation and reconstruction of war-ravaged Afghanistan, he added.I admire that in the private sector an initiative has been launched to combat terrorism-Japan is a very strong ally against terrorism from its beginning as we too suffer from this non discriminatory phenomenon. The victims of terrorism should get support not from national but also international community.
Japan is very proud that they have done a lot in anti-terrorism activities in whichever form. To take the example of Afghanistan, Japan has already dispersed more than " Eight hundred million dollars" for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Afghanistan and apart from this also supplied oils to UN Naval ships.
In my view Pakistan is the most courageous nation in the fight against terrorism. As President Musharraf said, Pakistan is on the road of moderate Islam. Moderation is the most difficult task and it requires strong will of the people.
It is a historic challenge and if Pakistan succeeds in this, the whole international community will be very pleased. Islam will be able to contribute in a positive fashion to the welfare of the international community.
Pakistan is a very tolerant country as it has fed more than 2 million refugees. Japan spares no efforts in supporting Pakistan.
